Our Approach to Dashboard
Why do automobile manufacturers cover modern engines with lots of plastic? To prevent untrained people from messing with the internals.
And it well illustrates our approach to the dashboard. Our clients do not have any instruments to tune in the configuration of the search engine. If they want to make some changes to the search, they need to contact our support team or book an appointment.
Even though customers can’t tweak how the search engine works, they have all the essential tools inside the dashboard: reporting, billing, resources management, and application status.
Detailed search reporting is available. Customers can analyze and use the necessary data as popular queries and filters. Data is available only to the store manager and not shared with third parties.
Other site search providers offer their customers several configuration tools to control the search and discovery experience. And their users do many things manually: add synonyms for search queries, customize search results, etc.
Convermax advocates another approach: if the customer needs to tweak something in their on-site search, it is better to ask the expert. We don’t charge our clients any fees for support.
Lots of things do not require any support tickets at all and appear automatically. These will appear in the search on their own:
new products;
new category;
new brand;
new YMM vehicle;
new vehicle fitment.
What requires a call, email, or support ticket:
adding a new filter section;
changing the way products appear in the search results;
adding a review system integration (e.g. Stamped.io).
We do not consider changing the search results manually for specific queries as a good fix. We try to find a generic solution for underline problems and make the search algorithm smarter. When it comes to creating new facets – there are many ways and resources to do it, so we discuss with the client what can be the best option for a particular store.
The whole configuration is saved under the source control management system. This way we can follow all the changes made to the code and fix it fast if something breaks.
The more innovative the vehicle the less you can do to it without an expert. The same can be applied to the search engine.
